The Cabeus Protocol is an augmented reality, murder mystery board game. I built it in my spare time over the course of a month as a prototype to enter in the 2018 Logan Theatre playtest contest. It uses Vuforia and Unity. I handled all of the programming and animations, and Michael Vaughn Green provided the art.
My goal for the project was to try an AR project–something I had never done before. Getting the project completed by the contest deadline took most of my effort. Playtesting at the event revealed a number of areas to improve usability related to AR, and also quite a few exciting potential design ideas.
I’m proud of our design and production process, and how we were able to flesh out a concept to a publicly playable form over such a limited amount of development time. It would be a fun concept to revisit.
